The gallbladder is a vital accessory organ of the digestive system, located beneath the liver in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen. This hollow organ, typically 7-10 centimeters in length, serves as a temporary storage vessel for bile, a crucial digestive fluid.

The gallbladder consists of three main anatomical sections:

Its walls contain specialized epithelial cells that actively concentrate bile by removing water and electrolytes, making the stored bile up to 10 times more concentrated than when it left the liver.
